Planning your stay
The basics
Check-in – Please arrive between 2.30-4.00pm. If you expect to arrive later than this or are delayed en route, please text us to make other arrangements. Arrivals later than 11pm will be treated as no shows.
Check-out – Please vacate your room and hand back the keys by 10am. Late check-outs up to 1pm can sometimes be agreed if another guest has not booked the room. You are welcome to continue to enjoy the gardens up until 4pm on the day of check-out.
Breakfast – our gourmet a la carte breakfast is available between 7.00-10.00am. If you have friends or family in the area and would like to invite them to The Green for breakfast, please let us know by 4.00pm the day before (or earlier if possible). The price for non-residents is XXXX.
Tea and coffee – Complimentary tea and coffee are always available. If you would like to invite friends or family to meet you here, please let us know and there is a charge of £5/person for non-residents, who are also welcome to enjoy the garden with you (subject to a maximum of 2 visitors per resident).
An afternoon Nibble – Every afternoon from 2.30 - 4pm there will be a freshly made cake or biscuits available in the Dining Room for residents and their guests.
Honesty Bar – We have a selection of high quality wines, beers and spirits, mixers and soft drinks, available for residents to help yourself if we are not around. Your drinks will be added to your final bill on departure. Externally purchased alcohol will be subject to a corkage charge.
Special treats – Please contact us if you would like to order flowers, champagne, chocolate or any other special treats or gifts placed in your room ready for your arrival.
No smoking or vaping - Both smoking and vaping, and any other naked flames, are strictly prohibited (except with permission) everywhere within the house and grounds.
Accessibility – we would be delighted to assist with any special arrangements within the constraints of the design of a 300 year-old building. Unfortunately, all entrance doors have steps and there are stairs to all bedrooms.
Activities at The Green
Walking/running – we have laid a tree bark path around the perimeter of the garden for the use of walkers and runners. The total length is ?? metres. Please note that it is uneven in some places so be careful not to trip over tree roots and please also beware of low-hanging branches. There is a public footpath to Wingfield and Bradford-on-Avon running past the house and a map of local routes in your room. We have free weights available for use in the garden on request.
Fitness coaching/yoga in the garden – we can arrange a personal fitness coaching or yoga session in the garden (weather permitting) with a local trainer, subject to advance notice and availability. This is suitable for any age from 18 to 80 and any level of fitness, whatever your goals, even if you have never visited a gym before.
Petanque (boules) – the pétanque pitch is on the North lawn near the side gate.
Board games – are available in the Drawing Room. Please feel free to suggest additions (and we might be able to get them during your stay).
The garden and the grounds
The Woods - We hope you will make the most of and enjoy walking through the woodland during your stay. We have a great display of wild flowers: snowdrops in late winter, wild daffodils in early spring, followed by wood anemones, bluebells and wild garlic in late spring. Then in August we get treated to a carpet of cyclamen flowers along the driveway. Around 40-50 years ago the father of the previous owner of The Green, planted several specimen trees here. We have labelled around 25 of the more interesting trees. Today we have over 200 different trees and shrubs at The Green, and are continuing to add new plants and trees. Of particular interest are the 150 year-old Giant redwood & the two Persian ironwoods, the largest of which we believe to be taller than the one at Kew gardens. We have left parts of the woods as wild as possible and created local habitats to encourage wildlife (this is why we don’t welcome pet dogs).
Ponds - We are lucky to have three ponds within the grounds which are a great place to view our local wildlife, we have several species of dragonfly throughout the summer and the odd newt if you are lucky - try a torch at dusk.
Please note that walking anywhere in the grounds is at your own risk. Please be wary of trip hazards and falling tree branches.
Wildlife -We have many 4-legged and winged residents and guests. If you are lucky (and quiet) you can often spot a hare, or occasionally a hedgehog in the long grass or a buzzard sat in a tree and (in the early morning) a roe deer on the lawn. Toads and newts live in and around the ponds. We have many species of birds in the grounds such as robin, wren, goldcrest and long-tailed tit; red kites can often be seen overhead and we have a pair of tawny owls that can be heard on some evenings. We hope you get a chance to glimpse a few of our furry and feathery friends and ask you to please be respectful of the wildlife at all times.
Your event at The Green
Lunch, tea and dinner parties - We do not operate a restaurant, but we do host occasional “pop-up” events. Details of any planned events are here. We would be delighted to host your private birthday, wedding reception or other event (maximum 25 pax). For bigger lunches or dinners, we collaborate with several local chefs and would be happy to arrange an appointment for you to meet them while you are here.
Price per head for a typical event depends on many factors so can range between £35-200 excluding drinks. An event at The Green is by definition somewhat exclusive as our planning consent limits us to 20 such events per year. If the Green is booked for your sole use we can arrange a soloist or acoustic musical group to enhance your event. If you require additional bedrooms we can arrange additional accommodation nearby to suit your price range. Meals are usually served in the Dining Room, but the terrace is also available eg for welcome drinks and canapes and can sometimes be used for dining (weather permitting).
Business meetings and events - We can offer an all-day business package with/without breakfast, coffee/tea and lunch (and dinner as above). Please contact us to discuss your requirements. Event start/finish time is flexible if all bedrooms are booked for participants but are otherwise subject to the need to look after our other guests.
Wedding package - If you are planning to have your wedding nearby, The Green is a wonderfully private and peaceful place to use for accommodation for the wedding party before and/or after the event. We would be happy to tailor a package to suit your needs or to liaise with your wedding planner.
Film production and photography - The Green and its grounds can be hired exclusively or partially for whole or part days for filming or photography. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
